The Foot Overbridge Adventure
The Foot Overbridge Adventure
Surya is a mischievous soul, always ready to explore the world around him. When he was in third standard at DB Egmore and like any other child, he had his own set of curious escapades.
One afternoon, Surya’s Hindi tuition class was in full swing after school hours in one of the classrooms in the ground floor. The teacher was trying to introduce the little ones to the beauty of the language. However, Surya found himself rather uninterested in the intricacies of Hindi grammar. As the lesson dragged on, an idea popped into his mischievous mind – an idea that involved a little adventure.
Unable to endure the monotony of the class any longer, he decided to make his escape. He carefully plotted his plan and waited for the perfect moment when the teacher’s back was turned. Swift as a cat, he sneaked out of the tuition class, his heart pounding with excitement.
Surya tiptoed his way through the school corridors, making sure to avoid any prying eyes. He knew exactly where he was headed – the foot overbridge that connected the junior and high school buildings. It was a place of legend among the kids, a spot where secrets were shared and dares were taken.
As he reached the foot overbridge, his heart was racing with a mixture of adrenaline and the joy of his daring escape. He gazed out at the sprawling school campus, feeling a sense of liberation like never before. His decision to bunk Hindi class had brought him to this exhilarating moment.
Meanwhile, back in the school, the realization of Surya’s absence began to set in. The teacher’s frantic search for the young boy turned up empty. Worried whispers filled the air as news spread that Surya was missing. Soon, the school authorities called my home to inform about his absence.
Panicked and concerned, I rushed to the school to find out what had happened. The sight of the worried faces around deepened my anxiety. As I listened to the unfolding events, I couldn’t help but wonder where Surya could be.
Back on the foot overbridge, Surya’s excitement was starting to wane. He had successfully escaped Hindi class, but now the reality of the situation was sinking in. The thrill of rebellion was replaced by a creeping sense of guilt and uncertainty.
Just as Surya was contemplating his next move, I looked at the overbridge. Relief washed over as I found out that he was safe. My stern but relieved expression met Surya’s innocent gaze, and he knew he was in for a serious talk.
After the incident, I had a heart-to-heart conversation with Surya. Despite his lack of guilt, I helped him understand the importance of responsibility and the consequences of his actions. Surya confessed that he simply didn’t enjoy Hindi, which led to a compromise between us.
From that day on, we made a deal. He would continue learning Hindi, but once he reached class 6, he would have the opportunity to learn French, a language he found more fascinating. Surya agreed, knowing that sometimes even the most exciting adventures couldn’t replace the value of learning and commitment.
And so, Surya’s childhood memoirs included this unforgettable escapade – a tale of a curious young boy who dared to escape, a concerned parent who rushed to his rescue, and a lesson learned about the importance of making responsible choices.
